GM designer for LT1=fucking moron

senor tainted- you will soon get the hang of it. my old roommate has an LT1 and can now change all 8 plugs in about an hour. he has done it many many times and had to start from where you are now. what i am saying is this is a learning experience that may prove valuable later. maybe you can be like my old roommate and start charging friends for LT1 plugs changes

Would you really want to call seasoned engineers ******* morons, though? Think twice before you rant about your problems. Displays of irrationality don't impress anyone. That is unless you could build another car.

I'd only call the engineers that believe those plugs will last 100,000 miles morons. At 25k, I was missing several of their platnum electrodes from my plugs. At 50k, my friends car was missing most of them. The car may still run at 100,000 miles, but those plugs are far from 100,000 mile plugs in my experience.

All 4 on the drivers side can be taken care of from the top. Passenger side is a little harder. Front gotta take off the alternator. next 2 gotta squeeze your had in the there might also be able to get the very last one, but its easier to get from underneith. No reason this should take more than an hour or 2.
You think an LT1 is hard try a TPI L98 or LB9. Those AIR lines are a bitch and a half to work around.

I have put 70K on GM factory plugs before. 60K on two different other sets.
Maybe they just don't hold up good on the Camaros. They work great on the other GM cars.
Note: None of the above sets needed replacement but I did so anyways.

OHHHHH MY GOD FINALLY!!!! got them alllllll done today. #8 wasnt **** after I bent that hook hole by the fender and stucky my skinny *** arm up in there. the rest of them were still a bitch. It just makes no damn sense making something like that, that hard to work on. gm needs to look the hell around and realise they need to make some more servce-freindly adjustaments to their cars. Anyhow, car runs 10x better and those spark plugs didnt have tips left on them literally lol, they broke off whenw e took them out they were so brittle. i guess that msd box finished them suckers off. It was a bitch and an adventure to say the least so maybe these TR55's will hold up long enough for me to finish my trans am

I'd like to think that those plugs work well in something, but I'm not holding my breath.

LIke i posted on another post you were on. Take off the belt, remove the alternator and bracket. You will now have acess to the passenger side. To reach the rear plug you will have to lay down on stomach (or depending your size get into a good position) The driver side rear plug can be gotten from underneath the car. Wish you were closer i would come have em done for you in less than 2 hrs. Im no mechanic by any means but i have owned 5 LT1 cars in the past. After you do it a couple times you find short cuts and things to help out and yes it is a pain in the ***

Why does GM put Mobile 1 in cars? Good selling point.
Plus that, I didn't know plugs could last that long and since I had already got the new ones. Just went ahead and did it. No since of buying something for nothing.

Im an engineer and although I do not design cars I can tell you that there will always be a clash between marketing and engineering. In other words, marketing tells engineers what to design around wether they like it or not. In the automotive industry there are different teams of engineers working together on a common goal by a certin deadline, so the engineering team for the body and the engineering team for the engine may have some designs that over lap, Not to mention tooling of existing parts. Its not economical to redesign an engine to fit in one car. I had an LT1 in my 95, the oil pressure sender goes in the back of the manifold under the windshield cowl. You cant even find that sucker let alone change it. The 350 has been made for 30 years, do you think they are going to scrap their stock of engines and re-tool to make camaro owners happy. The ford Astro had a problem in its early years, three of the 6 spark plugs has 9/16" clearance between them and the fire wall, the plugs were 2-1/2" long, that wasnt realized until the car was in production, so a tune up consisted of dropping the cradle and removing the engine and transmission to change three plugs. Working on cars is exactly what it is, work, it sucks, stop your bitching, get an education and dont be a mechanic

I know that Chrysler put Mobile 1 in the new high output Hemi due to the bearing loads. The engineer that specified that is a member on another board that I frequent and he was discussing that issue. It could be that Mobile 1 is considered to be better than basic dino oils by some members of the engineering staff at some of the manufacturers.

Im pretty sure it was the ford verson which i guess it the arostar? I remember it being an issue in my uncles shop back in the day where it was eventualy corrected by resesing the fire wall, but he said he had to pull a motor mount and push the engine forward and use an open end on the plugs in hopes of getting all three of them out and it was addressed in a bulletin, maybe its even on-line somewhere

Heres all i could find quickly on google, it was the ford, this one post suggested cutting a hole in the fire wall and pluging it, i dont think my uncle was allowed to do that in his shop being it was a ford dealer, i do remember him saying one guy used to remove the exaust manafold to get at them, or something like that, heres th elink
