buy a compression testing tool from wal-mart/advanced/autozone for $20.00. run the test. it's really easy and effective. if you need help or have questions pm me.

just borrow theirs!!
Well i'm kinda in a budget. I dont want to spray. it's just not long term and don't have the $$ for long term prob's.
I pulled both valve covers off and everything looked good/normal nothing out of the ordinary. HOWEVER my plug was FUCKED.

before you go and buy new pistons and rings i think you need to find out whats wrong with it, if i had to put money on it i would bet you have a broken valve spring or a burned valve, probably broken valve spring, with only 30lbs. compression thats not going to be the piston or rings unless you have a big hole in the piston. good luck.

thanks a lot really. well i took of the valve covers and i didnt see any noticeable damage to the springs. Do you think it's a good idea to take the heads off before i do anything else? is there anything in particular i should look for? How do I do a leak down test? Can anybody please tell me how this works exactly? what do i need?

The easy way (now that your V/C's are off) is to remove your intake and exhaust valve rocker arm bolts (10mm). Then use a leak tester. Pull out your pushrods and look at them in your hand, I've still got my money on them looking like the Mcdonald arches!
