remove your battery terminals and clean them real good with a wire brush and a can of coke, pepsi no joke. I bet there is allot of corrosion built up on the terminals. It did wonders for my car. dont forget to apply some dielectic grease after your done.

u might also want to check the ponytail wire in the back on the alternator, sometimes if ur power steering pump is leaking a little it will dissolve the rubber piece that seals the water out of the connection to the alternator... so if u get water in there itll stay for a while and mess with ur volts

My lights pulsate too. My battery cables are Super clean and I have NO power steering leaks. Does anyone have a clue what causes this. My volt hands always read good, light just pulsating.

probably the alternator, it's got a voltage regulator in it and sometimes it goes bad. IMO

Almost always is a faulty alternator. When this happened it also resulted to be my battery. I had an Optima Red Top at the time. It became damaged when it drained out. I know have a Yellow Top.

I had this start happening after having to jump start the 7 year old factory battery, which died after being driven all day and shut off for 20 minutes, and driving it home basically running completely on the alternator. I have a feeling the alternator overheats and fries the regulator. I haven't had to replace it yet, but its not going to be a shock like waking up with your head sewn to the carpet when I do have to replace it.
I used to go through an alternator every 10 to 12 months in a turbo 3.1 I had...I know the heat under the hood just cooked it in that amount of time.

I have the EXACT same problem I noticed it only after I replaced my dead stock delco battery with an Optima Red top. Only 30k on the clock too. I'm leaning towards the voltage regulator being fried. I too had to jump start my car before the Optima and was probably running on the alternator only.

So should I replace the alternator or just ride it out until it dies completly?

Check them both, alternator and battery. Be sure of whats wrong before changing anything. You could very well be looking at a combination of a faulty alternator and failing battery.

+1 on the alternator. One of the diodes in the regulator probably blew.

I had started a thread earlier about this or a similar situation I am having. I notice that when at night when sitting at a light my headlights will go dim then back to normal. My car has always done this. I have changed the battery once so its fairly new.

I think I will try the alternator, I can get parts very cheap from GM, so it won't cost me much at all. Thanks guys!!
