Default Temp gauge

My temp gauge never goes over 170. I threw a belt tonight and when I pulled over my coolent was coming out of my resovour but the gauge never went up. Im wandering where the temp sensor is on the motor, im gonna replace it or them. I really hope I dont have a problem with the cluster as I dont know if changing a cluster will mess with the mileage or if its stored in the PCM

something you have to realize about these temp gauges is that there really just false guages that arent very accurate......

Well, they are cheap, inaccurate gauges, not like expensive aftermarket ones. But if it never moves above 170, I would replace the sensor on the engine. It is much more likely to fail than the cheap gauge itself.
If you do have to replace the gauge itself, it will have no effect on your odometer or PCM.

where is the sensor located? I know its malfunctioning cuz it never goes over 170 and my car was over heating last night. Every other F-Body iv riden in have been close to 210 on the gauge

Not on the 98 model year, which is what he has...the 98 model has the true gauge. Its the 99 and up that reads 210 when the temp is actually 180-226 degrees.

Yes, '98's are different. I'd replace the ECT sensor first, it's on the drivers side head, right next to cyl #1 exhaust. Make sure you get a replacement for a '98.

Did you find the sensor? Its on the drivers side of the block. If you are looking at it from the drivers side, its on the top left of the block right next to the header/manifold.
