whats going on?! NEED HELP FAST!
the last couple of mornings when i have started my car the rpm and the speedometer needle would shoot way up. my tripometer would also reset to zero. i thought this was odd but figured maybe since its been cold here (florida) that was the reason. well i went to start it this morning and nothing happened...wouldnt even turn over. the battery is brand new i just had it put in at the end of october. any ideas?? thanks in advance!

The cluster will do that when its cold out, because your cluster is the old style that doesnt have the updated non-volitile memeory chip in it. that is normal for these cars, the only way to fix that is to replaced the cluster. Mine does it everyday in ohio from september to may. no big deal. The no start problem is not related. check battery cables and the new battery, even tho its new doesnt mean its good. try to jump start it and see what happens. Let me know if I can help anymore. Um, no Actually its a chip inside the cluster that looses memory when temps get colder outside. I have the TSB in hand directly from GM stating this problem, not to mention I have fixed several at work for this. Now if your alternator sucks it will contribute because of lower voltage in the system, but still wont repair it when the weather gets cold.

Here's the TSB, doesn't mention the gauge sweep but usually happens at the same time. http://home.earthlink.net/~cetera/pics/aug99tsb.jpg
Edit: What CCA is the battery they put in? Should be a 690 minimum for the LS1 according to my helms.
