Cam is missing a chunk - Do I need to replace it
How bad is it and how badly if any will this affect my car?
Heck if its gotta get fixed might as well do it as my car is dismantled. I have 3 boxes of parts i ripped out and like 10 baggies full of nut bolts washers and screws. (But i named everything with stickies so I wouldnt forget)

You said you have a s/c. Is it possible that someone maybe started to key the crank for it, and gave up?

I think you maybe right. There was no pin for indexing it. I was under the car and no pin came/fell out. And I use a piece of card board under my car to slide in and out and i bag and tag everything that comes out of the engine so, i dont forget what it was. I am pretty organized when it comes to working on her.
I can only imagine someone tried indexing it and stopped. I called up the shop that built the car and the reffered me to the shop that built the engine. He says he is gonna try to go thru his files and see what he remembers from this engine as it was built like amost 2 years ago.
The shop that built the engone is like 400 miles north of me. Maybe I will take more pics while the sun is up. I guess I will have to put my project on hold till I figuire this thing out. Sucks.
Thanks for the help folks.
Okay, its the snout and its got a crack. I can live with that. But, I did notice that the pin used to keep the dampner moving with the crank actually broke and is stuck in the crank flush against the crank. So i have no way of grasping it to pull it out. I ran my finger thru the square whole in the ati super dampner and there were shards of metal. Probably from the pin the broke off.
Any thoughts on how to get it out since there is no way of grabbing it?
Thanks,
Crystal

that looks like the crank to me.
