i dont care arguing on the net is pointless.usde whatever oul you want most all brands for example havoline castrol penzoil qaukerstate ect all come from the same refineries.this is a fact.believe it or not.i also dont believe in calling a person ignorant because of an opinion.im a firm believer in synthetics.and 0w30 oil is thinner than 10w30 .i worry about hot temps its never 40 below zero were i live.and im no newbie to the automobile.i do all my own work and im ase certified.im thru arguing over an opinion.

It's not a matter of opinion. It's about facts. I've already posted facts to support my statements. If you choose not to accept the facts, that's your right. Let people decide for themselves.

I'm no newbie either.

Amsoil 10W-30 seems to work excellent for me, in my truck and in my LT1, and i love having to only change the filter every 5k for the whole year

GC 0W30 doesnt come from refineries, its pure synthetic. and 0W30 is no thicker or thinner than 10W30.

"Multi viscosity oils work like this: Polymers are added to a light base (5W, 10W, 20W), which prevent the oil from thinning as much as it warms up. At cold temperatures the polymers are coiled up and allow the oil to flow as their low numbers indicate. As the oil warms up the polymers begin to unwind into long chains that prevent the oil from thinning as much as it normally would. The result is that at 100 degrees C the oil has thinned only as much as the higher viscosity number indicates. Another way of looking at multi-vis oils is to think of a 20W-50 as a 20 weight oil that will not thin more than a 50 weight would when hot."

First off you got to look at what viscosity is.Viscosity is the thickness or body of an oil.The higher the number the thicker it is.SAE(SOCIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS)sets these viscosity ratings for determining the ideal weight of oil for your particular vehicle.5W-30 for example the "W" in 5W means winter grade. They perform this test to see how thick the oil is at 0%F.The higher the rating the thicker.30 is the thickness at 212%..212% is also the operating temp on a lot of vehicles. How much the vehicle does thin out when warmed up does have a lot to do with the polymer package. My opinion on the subject of 0W-30 versus 10w30 is...of course 0W-30 is going to be thinner when cold, but once warmed up there is not going to be much of a difference.I would rather use 0W in the winter than 10W in the winter where it is cold enough to freeze **** before it hits the ground.I want a oil that flows freely when it is cold.0W and 10W-30 have the same 212%F rating when warmed up.

ok, just checking, because you are clearly dening proven fact that 5W30 is the same thickness as 0W30.

bww3588, you're just wasting your time with this one man. There will always be some people that refuse to face facts when the facts don't support their opinion. At that point all you can do is let it go.

We've posted all the info necessary for readers to make an informed decision.

only 3 years i guess that maqkles you one of those punks that is a know it all.when you have put in 10+ years of turning wrenches and breaking your back then you can act like you know somthing.
you guys act like this german oil can cure cancer.its ******* oil.this is a stupid *** discussion.i know all 30 weight oils are the same ,but when you stick a 5,10,15,or 20 in front of it its thicker.take rotella for example 15w40.you cant say its the same thickness as 40w.i dont go by anything an oil company says they will tell you anything to make a dollar.
i know one of you will post a reply just to get the last word in.

I have more than 10 years experiance working on various cars, so I guess I must know something then, according to your statement.....

Not necessarily true. You can't use the cold rating to determine thickness in normal operating temps. You need to look at the cSt ratings at 40 & 100c. There can easily be a 10W30 that is on the thin side of a 30 weight and slightly thinner than another companies 0W30. GC 0W30 vs M1 10W30 is the perfect example. At 100c, the GC 0W30 will be thicker than M1 10W30.

It's very easy to say that "the oil companies lie" just to support your opinion, but that doesn't make you right. And if you don't beleive anything that the oil companies publish on their spec sheets, then why would you beleive what they print on the bottle? Who says that the 10W30 you're buying is even a 10W30 then? I think you'd better just make your own oil, then you won't have to worry about lies.
