Default Mirror lights will not turn off

The mirror lights on my 98 Z28 Convertible will not turn off. It is not the dimmer swith being all the way up. Normally these lights come on when you open a door and go off when you close the door or put the key in the ignition. I have made sure the doors are closed but the lights will not turn off anymore. Is there a switch in the door? If there is a switch, where the heck is located? I can't find a switch or button in the door like there used to be in the old days.

Got any ideas. It is hard to drive at night with these lights on.

Isn't there a switch on the bottom front on either side of the mirror?

Actually, all of the interior lights (courtesy lights) stay on. I think that the trunk interior light stays on as well. It's not the door being partially open and it sure as heck is not just the switch for the map lights being on.

It could be the door position sensor that is just above the latching mechanism inside the door. There is a little plastic gear that meshes with the door latch that lets the computer know when the door is open or closed. It could have crapped out on you. Mine was just the opposit, my car always thought my door was closed. The hatch release woudln't work unless I had the other door open. The power door locks wouldn't activate from that side because the computer never registered the door had been opened after the alarm had been deactivated... interior lights woudln't come on... etc...

Its worth a look see, replacement part is $40 from auto crap - couple hundred from the dealer....

I feel like I now own a part of the space shuttle. Jim Reed Chevrolet (Nashville) replaced the BCM...get this...the Body Control Module. It only cost $555. Really glad it was not something as simple as a door swith. lol
