Thanks for the update, i am monitoring. Very curious to find out if those lifters were the issue. That is the only thing ou're changing in the tear-down, right? Where you get your head bolts, gaskets? How much for them?

got the head bolts and all the gaskets at napa. ended up bein around 200 for everything. that head gasket, intake manifold gaskets, valve cover gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, and head bolts. i would suggest gettin new valve cover bolts too.
i still can't believe that thing snapped with like 10 ft-lbs on it!!! oh well, i should have her running within 3 hours. i'll let ya know if the lifters fixed it.

well, still waiting on bolts. i just hooked everything up and started it to see what the valves sounded like before i buttoned it all down for good. i have some ticking. i'm assuming i need to readjust the rockers?

So the light is still flashing...have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then restarting it?

actually, no. granted, the tick that's been in the car since i bought it, is gone. but i still have the flashing SES light. so i really have no idea where to go from here. black electrical tape is looking really good to me right now.

well...it was showing the p0305 code and the flashing SES earlier today. Now it won't do it and everything seems to be fine. The light even went off as I was driving. I'm gonna call it fine and just drive it.
Still doesn't make much sense.

Well, that's a good thing i guess, somewhere during the tear-down, either lifters or elsewhere, i was gonna suggest a ground loose or some connection in engine or coil harnesses loose. regardless, i wold be happy, cause it sounds like you fixed it. congrats man

ok, i take that back. i still love my car. and i know we've beaten this thread to death, but i just wanted to bump it one more time to see if anyone has any fresh ideas. a buddy of mine had an idea, and i'm not really sure how feasible it is. he said that it could be the exhaust clogged (like the muffler) and it's causing unusual resistance on the engine...sounds logical, just not sure how possible this is. he also noticed a big black puff of smoke when i downshifted on the highway. makes me think the muffler could be carboned up or something. anyway, hope someone has some new idea here. thanks as always guys.

i wouldn't even know where to start on that. i'm on the verge of takin it to a shop. i'm tired of workin on it and i just want it right again. i don't mind turning wrenches to make it faster, but this electrical gemlin **** is horrible!!!
