I doubt you need a new block ...

I'm always seeing threads like this. Makes me worry what will happen when my starter finally goes out.

There is no reliable way to patch it. In order for it to be right the block must be replaced. It can possibly be tigged but it must be done by a professional welder, and the mounting boss must be perfectly flat. But it will always be weak and break again in the future. Most welders will make you pull the block anyways and bring it to them.

Oh come on.. a good TIG welder can weld that up and yeah it's not going to be as reliable or strong as original but realistically it should be strong enough as long as you don't try starting it hydrolocked in the future or has a fluke happen like w/ the low battery thing. I'd at least try that before I went out and bought a new block and went through all that. Also it should be possible to weld while in the car.

try a helicoil kit for the bolt in the block.
