Default TPS problems

Car is a 1998 with an A4. I have replaced the TPS on the Camaro twice since Novemeber. This time I replaced it 3 weeks ago after cleaning the IAC and a P0123 came on(TPS). I went through the relearn steps and the SES light comes right back on. I took off the TPS and reinstalled it, did the relearn process and light was off. I started the car 5-6 times and drove it 3-5 miles with no light. The next day it comes back on again. The battery has also been disconnected.

All the codes are a P0123, P0122

Any ideas as to what the hell is going on?

Try removing the PCM connector and cleaning it out with some electrical cleaner...also clean the pin area on the PCM. I had this same issues a couple years ago and this worked for me.

Check the wiring too, make sure there are no bare wires touching each other or grounding out.

Thanks Ed. I also got your post on RPM's site too. I will try that and see if it works.

Well this is what we found at work using the computer on it. The live data is showing with the car at idle the TP angle at 100% When I shut the car off and turn the key to run, it still shows 100%. When the connector is unplugged it reads 0% However when it is connected and the key to the run position and you jiggle the connector, it changes to 5% and 14% and other numbers.

My guess is the connector that attaches to the TPS is bad being it changes value when you jiggle it. Placed an order with my parts dept at work already. Hopefully this works.

Try losening it up alittle. It sounds like it is binding on the t/b shaft. If loosening it helps you need to clearance the 2.

just make sure that when you replace the connector you soldier it. crimp connectors do bad things to computerized cars. Hope you found your problem.

How do I do that? I have checked the TB blade to see if it was binding on the TB and it opened and closed with zero issues. However when you jiggle the wiring to the TPS, the values go from 100% TP angle down to 5-14% TP angle at idle.

Im not sure how hard you are jiggling the connector. My guess was you were wiggling the sensor along with it. I was refering to loosening the bolts that hold the sensor to the t/b just alittle. The shaft can push againts the sensor and hold it at wot, but still pivot itself.

Fixed! Re-wired a new TPS connector and the car runs fine and no ses light.
