lol, at least we're burning calories i guess by driving our cars around.

whenever i turn on the ac i can literally see my fuel gauge drop a bit. it is frightening. then i turn the ac off and it gradually goes back up. i've never been a fan of the ac in my car, i don't get very good gas mileage with a cam as it is.

You do know that the windows being down can hurt gas mileage as much or more than the A/C being on right?

That is correct. The drag induced by having the windows down has been proven to actually reduce fuel economy.

well I just did my whole system for 260 bucks, do a search on ebay for compressors for 98-02 camaros, 159 for the compressor,39.99 for drier/accum. and orfice tube, oriellys for belt, oil and gas/freon. One year warrenty on parts.

only problem so far is the compressor wont shut off, I think its a heater switch that is bad, no a/c in car for over a 1 or more 3rd owner.

I think they ended up saying the cutoff was either 40 or 50 mph (cant remember which)... above that the AC is more effecient, below that, the windows down is more effecient.

i would assume that would change car-to-car though. seeing as these cars are so efficient at highway speeds, i would think it would still be better to have the windows down than a/c on.

id have to agree at higher speeds the amount of drag would be too great to consider ti more efficent than ac
