Well today my car started blowing warm air all the sudden and i figured it was the compressor since it has been noisy lately. then i turned the air on and it stalled the car, so i cut the a/c belt and its definitley the compressor.
I dont have a whole lot of money since i already need new tires, and break pads. so ive been looking for a used compressor and found one from a member on here for 75 dollars with 57k on it. Would this be worth it since mine went out at 67k?
Also how can i discharge the system myself, i want to take the compressor off tommrow. and should i take it to the dealer to have the system vacumed out, or can i do it my self? and is their anything else i need to do or know?
thanks in advance

you can get the vacuum pump at vautozone, they rent them. the flush you will have to find on your own, if your compressor locked up you have to flush the system. if you have an air compressor you can get a flush attachment from a place like harbourgh freight for cheap. make sure you replace the orifice and accumulator also.

Mine came apart and i ended up having to replace the accumulator, condensor and compressor along with cleaning out all the lines, all in one shot. I bought everything brand new so I wouldnt have to deal with a remanufacured compressor again. I went through 2 of those. Rebuilt compressors are crap!!!

I took the compressor, accumulator and lines out. When i pulled the lines black chunks of dirt came out so its definitley contaminated. Im gonna order the compressor tommrow and hopefully flush the system.
My engine compartment looks real clean without the a/c it makes me want to leave it off.

just leave it off till you can afford a new one. when i worked at an auto parts store i learned the only thing you should always buy new is an ac compressor, never rebuilt. check ebay, i have seen new ones for three something. murray, factory air, and four seasons are all the same company. delco and delphi are also the same. do not, i repeat do not waste your money on a rebuilt.

Alright i see a few new for around 200, so i might try that. but if i can get a good warranty on the rebuilt i might just use that. So do most rebuilt ones just go out again or something? and do they make rebuild kits somewhere?
