Default Getting some clunking from the rear somewhere

Hey all, when I take off in first sometimes I hear a clunking in the rear end somewhere. It also does it going in reverse sometimes. It makes the noise just as the car starts to move. The car drives normal and everything but every once in a while I get this noise. It does not happen that often either. Any things I should check? Thanks

Check to make sure that the exhaust isnt hitting anywhere.
Check to make sure that one of the swaybar brackets isnt broken.
Check to make sure that the TQ Arm bolts havent backed out or if it might be rubbing somewhere.

All Ive got for now.

I've had this same problem on every F-body I've ever owned (on number 3 now) and I've never been able to fix it. This is a pretty common problem, isn't it?

I had a rear upper shock nut come loose before and made that kind of noise.

Thanks everyone. I will check those things out. Is it normal to hear a slight thud when shifting gears at slow speeds?

So I checked under the car and nothing seemed loose. The drive shaft did have some play in it when the car was in gear but not much. Could this be causing issues? Would a u-joint cause this sound? What about a trans mount? I am stumped. I just hope it isn't the rear end going or something.

There are several similar posts on this board and others. Seems to be a very common problem. Many people think the answer is to torque the lower control arm bolts to 75 ft lbs. I, too, have the same clunk ... seeming to come from the right rear on low-speed bumps. It actually sounds like the trunk lid is loose or something, which it isn't. I first noticed the problem after having my aftermarket suspension installed. Of course, the dealer says it's normal. I can't find anything loose or hitting, but there has got to be a solution to this somewhere.

Default trans mount

Trans mount is the easiest place to start, besides looking under the car

Well, this may seem kinda stupid and i could be horribly wrong. But if its coming from the rear right and it happens when you hit bumps....check your spare tire compartment. The jack/wheel in there could be not secured tightly enough. I know that was making noise in my 91 rs.
