Default mixing weights of oil?

Hey guys, ran into a problem this past weekend when I was changing oil...I use Pennzoil 5w-30 and poured a quart of 10w-30 in on accident with the 4.5 quarts of 5w-30. Would this have wrecked anything or been bad for the engine?...I did end up draining it all out ...rather safe than sorry

Look back or search at the 5,000,000,000,000,000 oil related threads. If you are so new to automobiles that you would drain out your oil for this, you need all the education you can get. Read at least 400 posts before you follow up this question.

Really wasn't necessary to drain your oil. One quart of 10-30 isn't going to change your viscosity that much to worry about. There are guys on this board who run 10-30 completely. You really only ended with a 5.6w-30 weight oil. Sorry you had to waste perfectly good oil

BTW I don't like to mix different BRANDS because of the different additive packages, but diff weights of the same band are OK.

+1

I use a 10w30 and 10w40 mix of Havoline DS.

Can't hurt anything at all, you can mix and match different weights of oil at every oil change.

I say **** the search, takes too long to sift through 1,000 old threads hopeing to find the exact answer I want, I just start a new thread.

Hmmm, I always try to search first, before I start a new thread, but that's me.

This thread was not to bad though.

No puppies killed. Funny....not.

One needn't be a pro to search and read any of the about 1,970,000 web pages found in a simple GOOGLE search for "motor oil +mixing".

How 'bout reading 50 of those sites and giving us a brief synopsis? Make this thread worthwhile.
