Bad/exessivly dirty air filter, a over oiled K&N filter, or no air filter. If the Maf is dirty you can clean it with a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol.

Yea, while installing my clear lid today, outlined inside the MAF was a line of smudge, all around.. just threw in a q-tip and gave it a good rubbing.... It wouldn't hurt.

Yeah, because you really don't want to accidently touch the wires while you are cleaning it.

not to highjack your thread, BUT, if one was to have installed a k&n and believed to get some oil on the wire, what would the procedure be to clean it?

thanks

Buy a can of MAF cleaner at the auto parts store. Don't use anything else. Unplug the MAF sensor and cold air sensor from air filter lid. Make sure key is off. Remove air filter lid exposing the MAF screen. Spray through the screen onto the wires. Do NOT stick the spray straw through the screen, you don't want to touch the MAF wires with anything but spray. Wait until it drys, put lid back on. Plug sensors back in. Now that you have a can of cleaner and have only used a few sprays, repeat each time you change the air filter or clean your K&N.
