Default Engine Temp Gauge

I changed 2 parts trying to fix this. One of them was this sensor thingy that goes into the driver side of the head or block. And the T-stat. It still doesnt work. Anyone have and ideas? Maybe I bought a bad part? Or maybe its something else. Thanks.

The only temp sensor that controls the gauge inside is the one on the driver side head, is the wires cut at all? The wires could just be messed up follow the wire from the DS head and down and see if the wire that clips into the DS sensor is cut, or twisted at all.

But the PCM is using that signal so If the wire from the sensor to the PCM is screwed then the car might be acting funny. If not then a wire from the PCM to the dash must be screwed.

The PCM uses the temp sensor in the water pump. The guage in the dash uses the sensor in the cylinder head.

OP are your gauges messed up inside? If so then there is something wrong with your sensor in the DS head. Devin PM me if you need anymore help.

Which sensor did you replac the thing that goes inside the DS head? If not I would replace I would do that along with replacing the pigtail which clips into the DS sensor that goes into the head.

I didnt know there was a sensor in the water pump. There are no wires from it to the PCM so where is this sensor?

My bad, that is just an LT1 thing. LS1s only have one coolant sensor. According to the specs I just looked up a 98 should have a 3 wire sensor, while 99-02s should have two wire sensors. The car in the picture is a 98 but it looks like just two wires.

I think you are on to something there. Automaticfastic, can you see where that green wire goes? Is it just hanging?

Well I dont have the car with me at work. I will check that green wire when I get home. Also It use to be a V6. All I know is its a 98 or 99 engine. 853 heads. So if its a 99 and I bought a 98 part its not gonna work huh?

The green wire just sits there. I pulled it out, it doesnt go no where.... So do I need to buy a 99 part #? Also my buddy has a 98 TA and his only has 2 wires. So maybe its the 99 and up that have 3?

I have an 02 and its a two wire. you should ohm out where that green wire goes. see if you can find a diagram or schematic and trace it to the PCM or something. It has to go somewhere. maybe a previous owner did something?
