LS1 overheats
I own 01 Trans am 6 speed.Recently my engine start overheating. Usually this happens when i drive over 30mph. I'm second owner and i don't have service history my car has 89,000 mile. I checked coolant level and it's ok.Is this could be coolant bad ? Since i think this is original coolant. Or maybe thermostat ?
I think i will flash antifreeze/coolant first. If issue remain same i guess change thermostat.
One more thing
temp would fluctuate... mainly getting hotter when i go faster and would cool right now in the snap of a fingers if i slow down. I keep RPMS low. Usually operational temp. is around 210. Recently it's 220-250.
Any other suggestions ?

Well, your coolant definately needs to be changed b/c Dexcool lasts 5 years (i.e. you're 1 year overdue).
What's weird is that teh car overheats only at highway speeds. I believe the radiator fans turn off at highway speed and turn on (when necessary) only at low speeds. Maybe that fact relates to your problem, but I don't know enough to offer any definitive advice.
Check your air dam--is it still there/intact? Also, check the front of your rad to see if any debris is blocking it. When I bout my car used, I found a cleaning wipe that had obviously been stuck to the rad for a couple of years.

Could be something as simple as a bad radiator cap - not holding pressure. Since the temp fluctuates as fast as snapping your fingers I'd also take a look at the ECT sensor connector/wiring.
