Default HELP my car suddenly will NOT crank!!

Ok, so the car started up fine yesterday.

Now today I go to change the oil in the car, and I installed a skip shift eliminator while I was under the car...

Well I get done, and I go to crank the car and....nothing. It makes a loud clicking noise..i'm assuming that its the starter but it DOES NOT spin over at all.

I put the CAGS plug back in, I though it may be that...but it still will not do anything but click....it almost sounds like something is shorting out when I hit the key..........

sounds like a dead battery or maybe battery terminals are loose or corroded. Just something to look into~Cole~

Yeah, definitely test the battery and connections before anything else. Sometimes we overlook the simplest things.

The car was running yesterday with no problems. I don't think the battery would have went bad overnight.

When I turn the key to the ON position it does nothing, but then I press in the clutch pedal and the starter clicks out..but its not spinning over for whatever reason.

I agree that the first step is to check the battery. A friend of mine went to the mall and came out an hour later and his battery was dead, so overnight would have definately been enough time for it to die.

Check all your fuses. This happened to me about a month ago for some reason my car wouldn't start because the gauge fuse was blown.

dead fuse...if you try to start it and NOTHING happens, dash doesnt turn on or anything, check the fuse that has to do with ignition and/or the dash readings. If the dash doesnt work whatsoever, the whole car will be dead. I found out the hard way and it took me 3 days to figure out it was a stupid little fuse in front of my face. The fusebox you should be looking for it should be on the interior on the drivers side of the dash board close to the headlight controls but on the outside if that makes sense. Hope you find it...

Probably the starter. If it clicks loud thats the starter solenoid meaning you have contact between the battery cable terminal on the starter and the starter winding terminal.

If it's clicking loud the starter is getting power and it's not a fuse.

Ha, I know. I stopped to get gas, turned the car off, filled up, went to start the car and nothing. I was at the gas station for probably an hour before I realized it was a stupid fuse. Glad I didn't call a tow truck, then I'd really be pissed. . .

if the starter is making any kind of noise what so ever when you turn the key, it should be the starter. the problem I'm having right now is I go to turn the motor and nothing happens. Radio, lights, and gauges are fine, voltage isn't dropping on the gauge or anything which can be only one thing in my case is the ignition relay. I would say yours is battery or starter, but most likely starter IMHO.

Use a wrench and smack the starter a few times, sometimes it will break loose and work for a while longer. This is ofcourse if its not a different problem

Since you have a M6 you can have a few people push you while you pop the clutch and if it starts you know the starter is bad. I had to do this many time in the past when I drove older cars. I've also used a hammer on a starter a few times too.
