Directionals work - don't work???????
97 Z-28 6M LT1
I just replaced the passenger side front bulb - I have a problem with the directional not working and then works for a while. The problem I have is this, when the car first powers up, everything works great. 20 minutes of driving and one of the directional don't work (random which one), 5-10 minutes later both don't work. Power downs the car for 4 hours or so - everything works again.
Something must be breaking down when it warm - also this time of the year, the heat is on in the car.
Anybody have any thoughts on this or had the problem.
Thanks
Bill
replaced the flasher with an electronic unit - I will see what happens. the only issue with the electronic unit, it will still work with a burned out bulb.
thanks

Ok replaced the flasher - the directionals work as they did before but now the they still keep working with the front bulbs out. Again it is random which one goes out first but as time goes along, both are out. There must be something else in the line that is effected by temperature. a couple weeks ago I replaced the passenager front bulb so I don't think it is the bulbs. Please note, when things cool down, they work again - no movement.
Anybody had this problem or know what to look for???
thanks
Bill
The bulbs are dual-filament. When you have flasher problems, do the headlights turn on the bulbs? Do the daytime running lamps function?
Not sure how much a new DRL module costs, but it probably makes sense to test it before you replace it. (When things are working and when they are not - to compare.) If you probe the DRL connectors, my schematics show:
- A blue/white stripe wire takes power from the flasher to the DRL for the left lamp
- A dark blue/white stripe wire takes power from the flasher to the DRL for the right lamp
- A light blue wire takes power from the DRL to the left lamp
- A dark blue wire takes power from the DRL to the left lamp

My read of the schematics show that the hazard lights and turn signals follow the same path through the DRL module. So, it your hazards work when your turn signals don't, I would guess its NOT the DRL module.Maybe Scoggin Dickey can chime in if their hazards were also effected by the bad module?
If the module isn't the culprit, the only other place I see that the turn signals and hazards having a separate electrical path is within the turn signal/hazard switch assembly in the steering column.
Have you tried wiggling the turn signal bar around a bit when its acting up? If there is a loose contact or something, that might indicate that its a bad switch.
I was wrong - when the right or left or both directional does not work, the hazard flashers does not work for the same directional that does not work. I did not get a chance this weekend to test the DRL module but I have to believe it is the issue. Anybody were to get one at a reasonable price?
thanks

You may also try a local auto parts store and see if they can get Delco parts. Otherwise, a salvage yard should be able to hook you up or you can create another post to see if any of the sponsors on this site have one for sale.

I did not verify the part application, but I did verify that I can do $220+shipping
