Seafoam has a nasty reputation at Jeepforums. There's a reason for it too. The old 4.0s just don't hold up well over time. Most of these people have dead seals, and the seafoam cleans up the carbon that's holding the gaskets together and filling the gaps.
I know a few Jeep guys that seafoamed a motor and had to get a new one. All of those motors were at 200k+ and starting to fall apart. If they were clean there would have been blow-by and massive amounts of oil consumption.
Instead, they held together from the engine gunk.

yea i dont see how seafoam will cause rods to go bad. even gm them selfs make a top end cleaners just like seafoam and it has no problems only way it will mess up the rods if you hydrolock the engine

I can attest that doing a cleaning on a low mileage engine is a great thing. (I have heard that it can cause leaks in high mileage engines where the gunk and deposits are making up for worn gaskets.)
I treated mine with the MotorVac CarbonClean system. From my reading, it performs similar duties as Seafoam. The downside is that you need to hook up a special machine to do the work. The upside is that the full cycle is complete while the car is in the shop - no worries about driving off gas, etc.
I paid a local shop $85 for the treatment and got an additional 3mpg across the board. Paid for itself in one road trip and was well worth the reduced effort.

As I promised I Seafoamed the Samurai today. It is a 1990 and was never taken care of before I got it and I have had it since 01. It has had 3 motors in it and has always ran and idled very rough. Today after just spraying the Deep Creep in it, it started to idle smoother than it ever has. You should have seen the smoke coming out of it. HAHA!!
