The release spring is just weak. You can add a piggyback spring to it. I think its on installuniversity.com or org or whatever

how long have you owned the car. when my buddy first got his '00 ss, he had the hardest time getting the hatch opened. he would try like 3 or 4 times, then i would take it and it would open right up. so if its new to you, you might not be used to it yet. but if you've had it for a while, then i would try the spring mod at installuniversity.com

How close are you to the car when you press the remote button? Your remote battery might be getting weak, and it won't work so well at distance.

I suggest putting in a new remote battery.

Then, press and hold the hatch button for several seconds, giving the solenoid time to work.

If this doesn't work, then the piggyback spring mod will probably be the way to go.

I usually dont let it lift itself. I use the key or keep my hand under the spoiler and press the button on the remote and assist to come up. When its really cold out the is when its the hardest. On a hot summer day one push oh the button, opens right up.

Ever leave your hood up for a long time like at a show. and you close it its really tough to pull. I think the hydrolic openers stick which could be happening to the hatch when down for along time..

I have the opposite issue, mine doesn't like latching. Though I noticed it is more because of the air movement pushing against the hatch than anything, if I have a window or door open it closes and latches easily. Just have to remember to firmly close it, forgot to when I first got the car and on the way home every time I hit a bump the dome light would flicker. D'oh!

the spring will work 1000% guarantee.. don't be lazy like some of the other posters here, it takes merely 2 seconds.. pull the carpet back, bend the ends of the 5/8 2.5" spring, and put each end piggybacked on the original spring.. WALA WORKITH

or u could jus put a zip tie around the spring and thru the litle hole to the rite and wrap it around and u can pull it as tight as u want to get the exact tension u want. releases every time

Ditto. I'm always right there with the key fob hitting the button since I never leave the keys in it.
