A/C Problems (Not Cooling)
OK my A/C in my 2001 Formula isn't cooling. The 134a is full, the Compressor is kicking in but it is staying in. Usually the clutch will kick on for a while and then kick out but mine stays on constantly. Could the compressor just be too weak or faulty? I read somewhere about HVAC controls can cause this??

Thats true, but r134a also reads by humidity in the gauges so where you live affects the readings that you should get. also you might try to get your a/c reclaimed and recharged. if it kicked on and off that meant you were low on gas but if it stays on and isnt blowing cold, you may have a very big leak or the clutch is not working properly. are you sure that the compressor clutch is kicking in? if not, there is your problem

Well the car is in the shop getting different gears put in it at the moment. I did check the low side pressure and it was at 60 psi. I didn't have the correct fitting for the high side. The clutch is kicking in and staying on but not blowing cold. I am beginning to think it is the compressor.

well if the low side is at 60 then the system is definately overcharged. perfect is at 30 and on your high side you need to know your humidity but down here in georgia i leave my highside at about 350 because the r134a weighs more down in the south

134a doesn't weigh more because you're "down in the south." 350 head pressure is extremly high, there should be a high pressure switch that kicks off your compressor. If you say your head pressure is at 350 you should check the condenser coils and clean them off. Try water first. If it's packed in use simple green in a 3:1ish concentration and let it soak 10 minutes and rinse it off.

A lot of people are assuming the LS1 F Bodies have low pressure compressor clutch cycling switches. They don't.
They have one switch, it operates on high pressure. It's right in front of the orifice tube because it shuts the compressor off when theres enough pressure at the orifice tube.
It also has a low pressure lock out in the same switch, if the liquid line has less than approx 20 psi it won't let the clutch turn the compressor on.

Your car running at 200 degrees is normal for our cars. A few leaves and pinstraw won't raise the temp that much unless it was really blocking the radiator.

Bad move there. Sounds like it's just low on refrigerant.

If you read this whole thread you will see one of my replies, says the pressure switch is also a low pressure cut out, if it runs low on pressure it will not allow the compressor to turn on.

When I put the gauge on the low side it reads in the red. (Alert) If it needed refridgerant wouldn't it read low? Besides, I attempted to add more last week but it wouldn't take it.
