Its 5-7 years with a GIVEN expectation of useage or what this case is milage. Its all based on statistics. Mine physically broke and Ive had the terminal off maybe 3 times since owning it for the 10k I have on it. Its just unexpected.

I had two in a row leak from the terminal and this
was within the first year, and the replacement was
similarly short-lived. Chowed the cable end pretty
good, too; I peeled back the boot, brushed it bare
and retinned the copper with a big-*** soldering
iron.

Pissed acid all over the sheet metal too. I went
and douched it real good with baking soda solution
and touched it up as best I could with POR-15.
But I bet it's got cancer where I can't see.

No troubles after going to the AutoZone Gold
Whatever battery.

My optima died after 2 years and my dad's died sooner than that. I think battery leaking is crappy, but really any battery over 4 or 5 years I feel pretty good about. I think they should be replaced after 5-6 just so you won't get caught out with some super odd battery thing. Mine car has been doing great. In my other car I do got autozone gold and so far so good.

I argee. Terminals shouldn't be popping off no matter the age. I wonder what is the condition of the plates inside, also.
