Engine ticking
I recently switched to Redline Oil 5w30. Now the "ticking" is more evident and I am getting alot of lifter noise. Car runs fantastic however and doesn't use oil or have any loss of power. Have you heard of this "ticking" problem before?
Can it be corrected? Does it NEED to be corrected? Any assistance is appreciated.
When it was at the performance shop getting new gears,i started my car to leave and the owner of the shop says...you have a noisey lifter
I told him most LS1s make that noise and it's not a lifter...he said BULLS*IT it's a lifter..end of discussion.
I really don't know what the ticking is on my car,it runs excellent though,so i don't worry about it.
Does anyone out there know why this might be? Is the Corvette and Camaro SS LS1 engine different than the Z28's in some way?
I've read about it here and there and I gathered it is a manufacture defect to do with rods slapping the block due to clearance.(If I remember correctly)
I is not happenning in Corvette motors but in f-bodies. Not all of them but a big majority.
Also the ring seal problem was supposed to have been fixed in 00 or 01 I think.

That might explain why the second time I took it in for the "ticking" they called and said it was done within about an hour. I don't think they even looked at it. In your opinion (soundegineer) should it be corrected?
