Its not hard to do, I pulled mine out in about an hour. Install took just as long, piece of cake. The pump itself is electric, as for a replacement just go to Autozone and get a new one for your situation.

Yes you can do it yourself. Don't cut an access door, just drop the tank and do it right. I would get a new replacement from autozone or a dealership.

The "correct" way to do it is to drop the rear end and then the gas tank. The "hill billy" way to do it is to cut a square section of the rear floor pan out directly above the pump and get it that way. I found a step-by-step write-up on exactly where to cut and how to do it on the net somewheres.

you dont have to drop the rear end to pull the tank.

You did on the LT1 f-bodies. I guess when they went with the smaller tank on the LS1 cars you could drop it without dropping the rear end?

I don't know what capacity 93-97 tanks are but 99-02 tanks are 16.8 gallons.

Have fun droping the tank.

I would cut a hole in the sheet metal. Who cares? You won't be able to see it, if it is done right.

i'd suggest an access door. i dont even see how it works if u drop the fuel tank...how the hell do u connect the fuel lines back together and tighten the round plate on top of the fuel pump. it was easy for me cuz of the access door. luckily the previous owner already cut it out.. i didnt have to.

u can save some money by just buying the small pump itself on ebay for like 50. cuz autozone wants like 150 for the whole pump that comes with stuff that u already have cuz they dont sell the pump seperate.

Ive cut an acess door on all my LS1's. Its not a big deal and I also made a hinge and latch so the metal is still there and doesn't rattle under the carpet.

IMO it's the easiest way
