i am about to go onto my 3rd one since i had the car. and i have only had it since november and have put 4k on the clock. it first had a gatorback? i think and it started squeaking.
so then i replaced it with one from advance auto parts and now its squeaking. any suggestions on what belt to get or why im going through so many?

might not be the belt, check the idler and tensioner pulleys.

Did you change the entire tensioner or just the pulley on it?

just the pully the tensioner was still good.

it does it till the car is warmed up. it does do it more in the morning form moisture i guess (anything i can do to stop that?) but not in the rain. it also does it in the middle of the day after sitting in the parking lot at school so moisture isnt the only problem

Any signs of belt dust around the engine bay?? Just squeaking or do you have belt damage as well?? Possibly a pulley alignment issue?? Your sure everything is moving freely??

there's a spray you can get called Belt Dressing. I got it at parts plus but I reckon autozone or advance has it as well. When I first bought my car the belt squeaked almost instantly so I replaced it and 100 mi later it squeaked again. The dressing stopped it for a good 5 months till I deployed, when I got back it squeaked again but the dressing stopped it again. I just put a new engine in the car and it's squeaking almost nonstop, dressing or not, but I'm guessing it's just the a/c belt since some of that a/c splurge got on it I think it's constantly slipping. I'm deployed again though so we'll find out later.

I have a 98 Z vert w/130,000 miles on it that has squeaked off and on since I bought it in '03 with 55,000 miles on it. PLEEEEEEEEZZZZEEEEEEEEEEEE don't post that I need to take all the pulleys off and repack them. I tried that and IT DIDN'T WORK!!! AND IT TAKES LONGER THAN 30 MINUTES!!!! My solutions and how they worked include: Belt Dressing - TOTAL FAILURE, DID NOT WORK. New pulleys (replaced ALL except water pump, alternator and damper) worked for about 1 month. Replaced entire tensioner assembly and used new AC and Serp Gatorback belts - worked for about 4 months and now I have the SQUEAK FROM HELL back. This is Friggin' ridiculous. EFI Alchemy here in JAX says yank the tensioner and replace with rigid, adustable bolted belt adjuster. Does this work?

YO GM... WHAT GIVES??? CAN'T YOUR ENGINEERS OFFER UP A SOLUTION TO THIS VERY IRRITATING AND VERY COMMON PROBLEM???

I had a squealer when I got it. put a new gates belt on it and the squeal got worse. I got a tensioner pulley and put it on in 5 minutes and problem solved. Now all i hear is that sweet sweet rumble!

I have a similar issue, first it was my A/C belt, so i replaced the bearings AND the tensioner... since then not a chirp from that belt. However, just last night my main belt started to make a light chirp and i have a feeling i may need a new tensioner on that one as well considdering that i have already repalced the idler bearings from when i had done the bearings/tensioner on the a/c belt.
