Overheating Issue Need Help
Ok so I just had an oil change and newer radiator put in the car. Temp was fine for a while and fans would come on at 230 degrees. Now, if the car idles for about 5-10 minutes, the temp goes into the red and the fans don't even kick on anymore. Is this a T-stat issue or water pump? With this valvoline oil i have in it now, I have lower oil pressure and higher temps...anyone know whats going on?

Fans should definitely be kicking on in an overheat situation - see if you can find your answer at http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#cooling

No oil out there should make the car overheat, some might run warmer cause of friction differences, but not make it completely over heat.
If your car overheats quickly within about 5-10 minutes after a cold start up,it could be your t-stat,but check into getting your fans fixed first. The link above should tell you where to start.Good luck.

sweet, so it is either my temp gage, a sensor reading in the water pump, temp, or cyclinder head sensor, or fan situation?
any shop should be able to figure this one out right?

ok so got the car to the shop and we jumped the fan relays and got the fans to kick on (yay), so then all i needed was a new coolant sensor for the fans and my car is running great. also, there was a huge air pocket in the radiator. but car is running good, so im happy. took the guys at the shop 2.5 hours to figure this out, so they only charged me for a half hour of work and a 9 dollar sensor.
