Default Car Resets every time it is turned off! Help!

Recently my 99 T/A resets the tripodometer and key fob programing every time it is turned off? I do not think it is loosing power as they change oil light still comes on as I have not reset it after the last time I changed my oil. I also keep my radio programing? Any ideas what this could be? Any info is appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Do your gauges sweep also when you start the car?

It's a known problem and seems to be prevalent in '99's for some reason. Do a search, I know it has been discussed before.

Like TWS stated.. It's NOT suppose to do that and there's a bulletin posted somewhere about the problem. But, it lets me know that my battery is low, which is most likely your case also.

Trip odo reset and sometimes accompanied by the gauges sweeping on the 99's is due to low voltage. Check the battery terminals/have it load tested to be sure. Shouldn't affect the key fob or theftlock on the monsoon.

He's right. I was in a rush when I posted my first reply. My '99 exhibited that behavior when I had a small Hawker dry cell battery in it. It would do a gauge sweep and reset the trip odometer upon start up. Now it has a regular batt. but sometimes it likes to reset the trip odometer.. I think just to annoy me The '99's seem more prone to this as I put the Hawker battery in my '02 and it didn't do any of the weird ****, plus other members were commenting on '99's doing this in a thread that is a couple years old. Do a search and you'll find it.

And... if I recall, I don't think it ever deleted the presets out of my Monsoon.

Maybe the 2002s have a larger conductor path to the affected electronics which means less voltage drop and less of a chance of the equipment resetting on the high demands of running the starter motor.

Mine did one day--bought a new battery, and has never happened again.

My '99 did that when I put a new Optima red top in it.

It did it occasionally for a couple of days, and it then got "used to" the new battery and doesn't do it anymore.

The gauges do sweep every time I start the car... The battery has a warranty. I will take it back and throw a new one in and see if that helps and check all the battery wires and terminals.

Thanks for the help!

I had this same problem with mine. Eventually I found that my positive battery cable had corroded toward the battery. Apparently this is a common problem with the factory battery. It leaks down the cable and corrodes it. Since I replaced the cable,I have not had a problem. Just a heads up though, It is a dealer part only and is not cheap. Just something else for you to check out.
