Default Are the racket pinion platic boots repairable?

I have a tear on the right boot on my steering rack.Is the steering rack boot fixable or should I start saving for one?Another question whats it leaking power steering fluid or some other rack fluid built in?

the boots arent REPAIRABLE, but they are REPLACABLE and are very cheap.

you rack sounds like its leaking power steering fluid from the end seals, and that leaking fluid ate up your boots. there is a seal kit but that requires taking the rack entirely apart. not really an easy job.

time for a reman steering rack. and new boots. and while youre under there tie rod ends.

hahaha. special clamp. i always use zip ties. if it isnt leaking that bad **** it. just put new boots on. i did that on my shitsubishi. worked for the remaining month i owned the car. lol.

im not sure if autozone or napa or whatever would have those, but i get that kinda stuff from rockauto.com. that sites the **** for little repairs like this.

the inner tie rods have a ball and socket type joint with grease. the boots are to keep dirt from contaminating and ruining the joint. so a zip tie will work fine.

theres a seal that keeps the fluid in the rack, thats located behind the inner tie rod and like i mentioned isnt that easy to change. if your leak is moderate to bad i'd get the rack rebuilt.

From what it sounds like a reman rack would be the way to go. Or drive it untill the leak pisses you off enough.

If the rack leaks, I would not put new boots on it. I think it would just be a waste of time.

as for those special clamps they should be included with the boot! autozone or kragen should have the boot and to tighten the clamp use dikes or another type of plier, very easy

But, you would still have to take off the outer tie rod end. . . .

Unless there is some other way to do it.

The special clamps are very expensive from the dealer. I can't remember the price but it was outrageous. I couldn't find them anywhere else. Maybe if you get the boot from a parts store it will come with them....
