Front O2s
Front O2s A guy who has a C5 Z06 told me that he's running it without front O2 sensors. I told him he's full of ****. I was always under the impression that you had to have front O2 sensors to run the engine. Any ideas?
you can run withouth them. i am now, because 1 went bad so i unplugged them both for the time being. it will run rich but you can certainly drive it just fine. if you get a speed density tune, you dont need front o2's or a MAF sensor.
He's got a stock tune (definitely not a speed density or 2 or 3 bar tune) with aftermarket headers and x pipe. The thing I don't understand is how the computer knows how to adjust the a/f ratio w/o them.
well i have all of my o2's tuned out, because im running open loop, which kicks *** cuz i use to go through o2's everyother week...i dont see his car running right though if he pulled them and hasnt had a tune, maybe hes just full of **** and has had a tune??
It will run even if it's not SD tuned, but poorly. It will likely be more than a little rich and is all around a bad idea. Going SD on a basically stock DD car is also generally a bad idea. You lose the ECUs ability to adjust to a closer to correct a/f based on temperature, elevation, etc.

Stock narrowband o2s tell if you car is around a stoich AFR (14.7) under normal driving conditions. Your car reads these and adjusts fueling accordingly, if it's lean add fuel, if it's rich take fuel out. If your tune wasn't close and you removed the 02s then your car would run according to the stock calibrations (pig rich) and have no way of knowing that it was rich, and no way for knowing when to take fuel out. If the tune is dead on or close then the 02's don't really matter all that much. But that's just cruising, the o2's aren't even used for WOT.
