This website is about all you will need to talk you through the process. The EGR! will remove the obstruction in the intake. The EGR! is also said to affect fuel consumption and in some cases cause pinging. The AIR! will rid your car of the annoying noise on start up. The AIR! will also affect the longevity of cats if you still have them. They both will help to reduce nose weight, and the jury is still out on the AIR!, but I can say 100% that the EGR! will set an SES light. I've been living with the SES light for some time now, still waiting to have the codes permanently deleted.

i dont have either of those things... dont need them!

the EGR just takes up space in the intake so i pulled it out when i got the ls6 intake and the air tubes & pump are useless since i got no cats!

the EGR has to be about 3-5lbs and the air tubes, Pump&Bracket about 7-10lbs.. so its a nice weight reduction mod

LOL! Your EGR and air pump did that, too? I took all that stuff of my car for heads and cam and just never put it back on. The best thing about not having it is that there isn't all that junk to look at under the hood. Take that crap off and then get a set of non-emission headers and it looks much nicer under the hood.

hmmm...no egr = no exhaust going back into the intake = no carbon build up going back into the intake.

no air = no more stupid popping noise from the exhaust when the car is cold = people dont look at you like you're a dumbass

weight reduction from both
alot easier to work on the engine with all that crap out of the way.

yeah that's another thing, it is soooo much easier to get around under the hood without all that emissions stuff.

Another great thing is that you wont have to cut the backs of the FRC's if you decided to get them. There will be no AIR tubes to get in the way. And your spark plugs will be alot eiser to change.

AS soon as I removed my AIR system it threw a SES light. And we all know the EGR does too but o well there just codes the car runs fine.

Have those codes tuned out. Then you can pass emissions.

You can pass emissions without the ERG and AIR??

I failed NYS emissions WITH them ... and before the cam.
The headers move the cats back further, which I believe makes them less efficient since they don't heat up as much.

As far as OBDII in Ga goes, you can remove wahtever you want AS long as it doesn't set a code. No visual inspection on emission equipment at all. Sims and edit can take care of that

how exactly could removing your egr make your car ping? I never understand that it recirculates hot exhaust gasses back into your intake...how exactly does this cool down the intake charge enough to help stop pinging? lol it just sounds dumb to me maybe im wrong.

Thanks
Bill

The EGR's job is to add unused gases back into the intake, the PCM is calibrated to run with that gas. Taking that gas out of the equation "could" result in lean mixtures and thus cause it to ping. This is only my opinion though

If you get tuning after doing this (Which is the best option imo), will I pass visual in California? I know I can pass sniffer, but will they even know what to look for if I have no EGR and no AIR?
