Default Motor Mount write-up

I am getting ready to do my motor mounts this weekend. Im going with poly urethane. I bought an extra set of clamshells to prep them before the install. I saw that people said the hardest part is to get the clamshells open. This is what I did and I was able to get both open and rubber removed in a matter of five minutes.
Supplies:
Part cleaner fluid(or any other flammable/corrosive liquid)
Flat head screw driver
Hammer
Ignition source
And a stair

-First I let the whole clamshell soak for about 20 minutes. Long enough to let me go up to autozone for paint.

-I then placed the clamshell on the ground and with a torch lit it on fire. Im sure you could use gas just the same.

-I then took the clamshell and put one part against the stair and hammered the flat head into the other side. I hit along the edge and the stair gave me a firm base instead of tring to hold it. On one I had to flip it and do the other side.

And that was it. They both popped open with ease. Like I said 5 minutes. It left some lead over residue of the rubber bad. With alittle stripping from a drill and some more buring it was brought down to bare metal. I hope this helps people in the future

In all honesty, this was the easiest part of my urethane mount install. Simply drill out rivets and pop. Hard part was getting everything lined up the way it needed to be to put the bolt back through when putting the last side on, i did mine with the headers still on, a/c condensor moved, and alternator out. If I had to do it again, I would have removed the headers just because of how easy they are to get in and out. Other side note, do not tighten anything down until you have both mounts on and bolts through, it can be a pain pushing against the urethane to get the motor to move side to side, every time we'd push sideways, the motor would rotate up.

Say you had a lift- and many tools at your disposal.

Would it be possible to do this without removing anything else?

it can be done with the headers in there. you can just let the alternator and ac compressor hang on the sway bar. So at minimum that would need to be done. But from what I have read you will wish you would of taken them off if you dont.

Nope. Gotta shift the AC condenser and alternator out of the way.

how long of a job is this with air tools, a car over your head, a friend to back you up. Like say I could get every tool needed.

Just trying to figure out what I'm out.

Also - anyone have a link to a vendor that sells poly motor mounts?

Been about 3 years since I did it, but I remember knocking them out in a day. Probably about 6 hours, maybe a little less. Didn't touch the headers, there was plenty of clearance, but did have to unbolt the compressor and alternator. Maybe the starter, but I can't recall.

I did mine on the header install and it was cake then...

I just drilled out the rivets and used a propane torch to heat up the areas where the rubber is bonded to the metal. A couple minutes of that and it would practically fall apart; no force was needed.

Well - I'm going to have the dealership swap out the drivers side cat. under warranty (hopefully they dont fight me on this).

Do you think I should trust them with this job? (maybe I'll have them just do the drivers side and do the pass on my own)....

It's not hard at all with the headers on. I almost had the drivers side mount out, until I stripped the top rear bolt

Hopefully I'll have it out today since I had to order a Deep Well bolt extractor.

I got my Spohn solids installed in about an hour and a half on a lift with air tools. I know it's much harder/time consuming on the ground but after reading all the horror stories about them they were actually really easy to install.

damm that sucks. those bolts are on there pretty tight but once the factory seal is broken they come right off. good luck on removing that stripped bolt, its gonna be a PITA
