Duals with no crossover
Never heard one on an LS1, but its going to give you a lot of resonance. Meaning at certain RPM's it will make your ears ring, which isn't really fun.
Crossovers will make more power and sound better, I don't see any benefits to straight pipes.

you need a cross over pipe so you dont lose power. With the engine firing the way it does if you don thave a cross over pipe one pipe will have no compression for a brief period of time killing performance. Dont re-invent the wheel. Go with a cross over pipe and call it a day. But remember that if you do an h pipe you have to have the horizontal pipe incredibly short to get the true effect. you cant have a 2 stick of pipe connecting your duals and call it an h pipe

you really dont want to run open headers for the fact of ruining front 02 sensors and and cracking valves. I have ran open headers before it was fine it just vibrated the hell out of the car.

bro you really need a crossover pipe. you wouldnt think it, but it actually does make a difference. that being scavanging. they also sound quite a bit better.
as for the open header thing, i ran them for 1 day and had to drive my car roughly 5 miles. my car idling was louder than my radio at almost full blast. had the exhaust made/installed and after about two weeks my 02s went out. i think when i ran it open header it made an impact on the 02s but im not sure. you can also warp valves running open headers

Buddy of mine is running straight pipes under the axel with dynomax bullets turned backwards-by far the best sounding LS1 Ive ever heard. No rasp and no drone on the inside, but it has a nice deep tone to it. Sounds much better and cleaner than any H or X pipe setup Ive heard yet.
As far as power he was running a bolt on only car with a built tranny and 3600 stall making 350 rwhp. 99 Z by the way.
Honestly I think it just boils down to what you want to get, I like the straight pipes under the axel, most like a crossover of some sort.

I'm running 3" true duals no x or h pipe, with cats. I saw no performance drop from my Y-pipe set-up and the car pulled harder all around. I was putting down 339 rwhp w/bolt-ons through an A4 and weak *** valve springs, actually was getting piston/valve contact.

Between an X and an H is to be argued and both have their place. Personnally my H was so short it was almost an X. Either way, it IS better than running two seperate pipes.
how much did he pick up? only peak hp or all across the graph? what size exhaust? how is exhaust routed? back to back pulls? Lots of variables. Lets see the dynos.
I saw a dyno on my friends sisters cousins car and he lost power going to an x-pipe.
I too would like to see dyno numbers. If were only talking 5rwhp difference then oh well!

in all the setups they went all the way to the back..
no they were not back to back pulls.. it would be hard to do that in between exhaust setups.. they were within 2 weeks of each other, same dyno, nothing changed inbetween..
i do no have the graphs.. already stated differences.. tq changed also, but cant remember the difference, ill call my buddy and see if he has the graphs..
