throttle body question

what is the sensor on the top of the tb? not the position sensor. im porting my tb and i noticed that sensor is really dirty, should it be cleaned or left alone? thanks

Idle air control valve

You can clean it off, just don't spray it down or soak it in carb cleaner or you might screw up the motor in it.
