WARNING...IF you have an after market cat back installed,
I have a CORSA cat back on and love it, but I was getting this annoying rattle, mostly at a stop , in gear. The heat shield was touching the pipe that goes over the axle.. So I bought one of those pipe wraps that clamps on instead of winding, like the other type of wrap does...
When I got the heat shield off of the car the combination of the pipe against the heat shield, which was not touching the gas tank, had started to melt the gas tank . The heat wrap solved my rattle problem, and I'll keep checking if the heat wrap is doing its job.
That could have been a bad situation, if she started to leak.
Its called a Flexible Clamp on Heat shield
check it out at www.thermotec.com
Summit sells it
{attn.} MODS maybe you could make this a sticky??

Re: WARNING...IF you have an after market cat back installed,
The shield is there for that reason;
to provide a barrier between the exhaust's heat & the gas tank.
You should put the shield back in & re-adjust your exhaust so that it clears.
I've done quite a few, never had a problem getting one to clear.
Otherwise you can be asking for a ton of trouble.

That's right, that is why I put the flexible, wrap, in its place, the shield that was there was rattling driving me nuts, and was starting to melt the tank. so what trouble am I asking for? I prevented big trouble.

Sounds like the cat-back wasn't installed properly or not manufactured/fitted properly... never had a problem like that w/my Borla Cat-Back... and don't know anyone that's removed the heat shielding w/their aftermarket cat-backs

Re: WARNING...IF you have an after market cat back installed,
The reason I removed the heat shield, is because I couldnt stop that fugging rattle. I was shocked to see how much the gas tank had started to melt in that area,
I saw the ad for the heat wrap in Oct. Chevy High Perf. page 121. thinking, by installing that, in place of the metal heat shield. That it would take care of the rattle, and still protect the surounding area's. So far so good no rattle .
