Default So I sealed my airbox completely....

And the results are absolutely amazing.. My throttle has greatly improved, power has greatly improved, and now im waiting to see mileage. What I did was take off the airbox housing (where the lid sits on) and weatherstrip all sides of that, then i put the lid back on and weatherstripped all sides of that. Basically no air is escaping now. I tested before by using a leaf-blower up the FTRA, and it was basically like an AC when my face when it was near the lid. This really shows me how horribly the SLP lids fits. I guess i always saw the gaps but just thought "I'm sure it will work out somehow" Anyway, anyone who hasnt tried it should do so. Also, for the people that have, can you post pics... because my setup is pretty messy-looking

What kind of weatherstripping did you use? Yeah, some pics would be greatly appreciated.

i did kind of the same thing; i went to Home Depot and bought some weather stripping and sealed my ram air hood to my air box. I laughed at what SLP thought was a decent seal and also laughed at the fact that one of the factory "seals" fell off. Now their is less then 1/4 between my hood and my air box. This spring i will re-do it and make it a completekly tight seal. I wll also do what you did to your air box and seal that, I did notice a slight difference in throttle responce though; every little bit helps.

Yeah basically all or the seals that came with the lid or FTRA (i dont remember which one) were half off and touching my MAF screen. I go some approximately 2 mm thick weatherstripping that was Scotch brand. It had adhesive on one side. I can take pics when I get home but like I said... for now it is pretty damn messy looking until I figure out a neater way of doing it. But it sure does get the job done

good job. that is the key when using a ram air method to seal everything.

So you sealed in under your lid? In front of the lid? and under the radiator support?

i need to do this to my car. my ftra is sealed to the lower air box with some strips of dynamat that i had left over from my stereo install lol but it worked and did the job.
im not even shure what brand my lid is but i think its a ls1motorsports lid.
im going to go later to lowes and get some weather striping to fix my lid.

You want a nice seal?
Take your maf and bellows off.
Clean, degrease real good, the area that touches the filter.
Take some Right Stuff, or even some other silicone type sealer and put a bead around the edge where the filter touches. You might want to wait for it to skin over just a little.

Now lay some wax paper on top of the filter and re-install the lid onto the air box and clip it down.
Wait 24 hours or so.
Take the lid off, peel the wax paper back, trim the sealant.
Reinstall everything.

Absolutely brilliant. I need to do this to my SLP lid, it's fits like **** (especially w/ my BBK throttle body and adapter).

Any chance of that weather stripping coming off and getting sucked into the engine?

If you still have the screen on your MAF then it would stop it even if it did.

Yes, but that is what the screen in the MAF is for.

so step one seal the ftra to the radiator cover, step two seal the lid to the filter.

Could you explain this a little more? I don't fully understand...what is the point of the wax paper?

So you blocked off the inlet so it only sucks from the FTRA?

I thought about the FTRA a long time ago but opted not to go that route since it goes in front of the radiator. I'm gonna seal the front of my airbox to my hood instead since it's de-baffled.

My whole air intake is pressurized! My car does not run hot with the FTRA in front of the radiator.

The FTRA has proven it's gains.

Sealed in front of lower air box
[/QUOTE]

So did you just stack a ton of the weather stripping in the gap in the front...I did the free ram air mod. Do you think I would still see some gain by sealing the lid up?
