Whine with the Defroster on?

Whine with the Defroster on? Hi everyone. I've noticed lately in the morning when I first start my car and turn my defroster on, there is a whine that gets louder as the RPMs rise. Its not the AIR pump because that shuts off after a few minutes and there is stil a whine although it is quieter than the AIR pump. When I finally turn the defroster off, the whine goes away immediately. Is there any reason for me to be concerned and what can I do to fix this? Thanks in advance

You don't have any reason to think the alternator is getting weak do ya?

I don't have any reason to suspect the alternator is going bad (but I'm far from an expert.) I had a battery replaced under warranty about a year ago (car wouldn't start) but I've had no problems ever since. The only reason I bring this up though is because I never really noticed the noise before. So everyone else's alternator kicks in at that point also?

Defroster runs the A/C system for drying the air
before it heats. Do you hear the same sound if
you run A/C instead of defrost?

Re: Whine with the Defroster on? OK, so I tested this on my way home from work and I couldn't get it to make the noise at all. So now I'm thinking it only happens when its cold outside (like when I leave in the morning.) Thats weird though because I generally wait for the car to reach operating temp before I leave my driveway (in the morning) and it still makes the whine until I shut the defroster off. I will test it again tomorrow morning to see if the ac does it too. Thanks again for the replies so far

Try it with the A/C on open the hood & rev the motor & see if thats your noise w/ A/C on & off.
Seen plenty of A/C compressors go south & make noise.
