the rx can does not have a pcv valve built in

you guys are just trying to block off or redirect crankcase pressure instead of getting rid of it. be careful your about to pop a dipstick or rear main seal.

Looks like they changed them from a few years ago but back then they were labeled "RXtreme" and there is most certainly an integrated PCV.

Need some help with routing for my PS valve cover line. I don't have to option to run it to the NW102 DBW TB so I'm currently using a breather. My MAF is right in front of the TB so no room there.

What can I do?

get a fitting, straight or right angle etc. with a hose barb on both ends (usually 3/8" barb)



some that make aftermarket couplers have a port molded into them as well.

Thanks. The intake hose I have isn't strong enough I believe to adapt a fitting to. I'll see if I can find one that has it.

Is there anything wrong with this set-up. Nothing going to intake or TB.
Basically, both valve covers "T" connected to the catch can "in" and the "out" to a small filter. SD tuned.

wrong is subjective, to each their own, but it is more restrictive than stock for engine breathing, and you have defeated the pcv system, so you will now smell crankcase fumes 100% of the time and your oil will contaminate more quickly than a normal oil change interval.

Thank you for that quick response. I have always been confused, I thought the idea was to keep "oily fumes" out of the intake. I thought it would help a little with crankcase venting. (Please don't make fun of my EBay CC). This is a track only car....SD tune.
By all means set me straight on the best set up.

the catch can is there to filter out the oily fumes but I believe you still want the PCV system hooked up to the intake as it helps pull the pressure out of the crank case.

well that partly is right for sure, oil consumption is bad, fumes control on the other hand is pretty nice and useful IMO. you aren't hurting power when you aren't wide open just putting around when pcv is functioning.

What about those "breathers" that replace the oil cap, they any good?
Trying to vent crankcase pressure here....
The engine is either at idle or WFO (again this is a drag only car)!

I think you should look up PCV system and what it does and decide if that is something you want to have or not. After that decision the hose layout is very straight forward. I have never built a drag only car, but l have run pcv systems on 1500hp setups nicely.

If you are over stock hp i would look to doing a little bit more at least than the current setup. Or just try it out and see how it does. if it pops the dipstick up or rear main seal out then it is not enough.

IMO the intake manifold connection is not a big component of crankcase pressure control.

Most engine breathers also partially or completely defeat pcv function, so if that ends up being something you want to maintain then I would look at the types that are exit only, so that they seal during pcv vacuum. If not interested in pcv i would look to the type that have good baffling since you can get direct splashing from the pushrod in this spot.

I found this thread too late. My current setup was just something I threw together and I'm not liking the smell. What I'm looking for is to:

-not have the fumes released to the atmosphere
-keep smell down
-keep oil out of the intake
-release crankcase pressure so that I don't blow my rear main seal
-ensure blowby fumes are not consumed so that power is made with fresh air
-no vacuum leak
-don't allow unmetered air into the system at WOT

My routing is:

No idea how this can plays into it all, as it looks like a simple can with 2 ports and a breather on top. I'm assuming that to achieve these goals, I need to run a different can? I can remove the breather on my current setup and cap the can, to get rid of the fumes, but then I'm not adding any ventilation capability. Also won't all of the blowby fumes be force consumed, causing power to be made by those fumes and not fresh air? I see that the MM PCV mild can has a breather on the top. How's the fumes on that setup?

Does the catch can being used in this image below have a breather on it and how is the smell on that setup? I'm wanting to modify my existing setup if possible to achieve my goals listed above. Can it be done with re-routing, minor changes or do I need a new $150-$200 can?

You just need a breather with a one way check valve and the setup in diagram 1 should be fine.

Found this which is meant to go into the valve cover, but perhaps there is a cheaper option for a simple breather with a check valve on it that I can put on top of the can? The OD of the catch can where the breather currently attaches to it is 1.5 inches.

the cfm part is $30 more expensive than the mms 'boosted adapter' and the mms part has baffling and flows more. but nothing beats a catch can for catching.

That's what I'm using now along with the elite catch can.

Had I known what needed to be done in the first place, I would have went with the MM can and saved myself money.

I routed my valve cover line and the pvc line into a T bar and have 1 line to the catch can and one line from the catch can clean side to the intake. I capped off the tb. Is this ok?

no. you cannot merge or delete part of the pcv system and have it still be ok.

pcv system must always be clean air in one end of the engine (measured by the MAF if you have one) dirty air out to pcv valve, line from pcv valve to intake manifold. catch can could be before or after the pcv valve but there can only be one hose between valve and intake manifold
