Default Meziere water pump question

You guys with the EWP in 1997 to 2003 with thermostat mounted in the factory housing, this question is for you. Did you have to buy another housing or were you able to pull the thermostat out of your factory housing and buy an older style thermostat? $585.00 and I really dont want to have to buy anything else besides a cheap stat.

It uses an older chevy thermostat. You can go to ls1howto and it has a write up un install and it's been awhile but you need to drill a hole in the new thermostat I just don't remember what size.

I know, but will it work with my factory housing with a built in t-stat? Can I take my t-stat out, use an older chevy t-stat or do I need to buy a new housing?

The write up has everything to do and you remove the stock one from the housing.

Might as well get a new one - the old style is less than 5 dollars. It suggested to drill two small holes in the thermostat. The reason is explained in the instructions. The thermostat goes on top on the EWP compared to lower side on the stock mechanical pump.

Tip: Pay close attention to the install when running the electric wire up to the power source. Tie the wire cord off and aways from the belts. An improper install by my installer allowed the belts to cut the wire in half causing a boil-over and two gallons of new anti-freeze.

IMO - an EWP is a very expensive way to get an additional 5 horsepower unless you drag the car and need it for cool downs between runs. The $600 is better spent on tires, lite weight wheels, shocks, suspension parts etc.

I removed mine and went back to stock. I'll be putting it up for sale in a few weeks.

You can use the stock housing without the stat.
Katech has a billet one that is cheap.

You mean this one for $132.59?

That is more than Meziere's neck that runs over $100!

My god, why is it that Katech and Meziere charge so much money for a rediculous water pump neck? For the price of the meziere pump, it should be included.

Even a plain old stock one, new, sells for less than $50, even cheaper used of course. Not to mention the neck is not in plain sight and 1/3 covered by the hose. So as for enggine bay bling, I get very little for the cash.

I just don't understand.

You can remove the original thermostat from your stock housing. Grab it with some channel locks, push, twist, throw the t-stat guts in your trash can. Takes about 1 minute and zero dollars. No need for fancy, expensive billet housings. Then, buy an old style SBC thermostat, which will fit in the screw-in end and costs about $5 from your local auto parts store.
