What are the benifits of using a ls6 valley pan Just curious i'm ab to put an ls6 intake on my 99 TA and was wondering if its necessary to change to a ls6 valley pan and if not what are the benefits of changing it

yeah i know thats what i was wondering cuz one of my friends switched the valley pans thinking it would eliminate the oil in the intake and to me i didn't see much of a difference. so is it recommended to change the pans or will i be straight slapping an intake on the original valley pan
Not unless you want to go through the hassle of cutting/modifying your existing block in order to utilize the LS6 valley. Put the LS6 intake on and then run a catch can in combination with your PCV valve and you should be okay.

that is true. some areas in the block will have to be cut to use the LS6 valley cover

I have a '00 Trans Am and didn't have to cut my block. Save your money if your getting it just to control oil consumption to the intake manifold. Didn't make a difference on my car. It does clean up the mes of hoses though. I will be selling mine soon. I just purchased the newer '04 version of the valley cover. It has an internal pcv built in and supposedly controls oil better. GM p/n 12577927

Try this on for size INMY01TA - my engine is on a stand in the garage... intake is installed and torqued down. The block is already cut... I wondered wtf it was cut... :duh: I realized that I have a LS6 cover on the shelf... do I pull the intake to put the LS6 cover on?

If the block is already modified to accept it.....would be very easy to do with the motor out of the car. Intake would be a piece of cake to remove and reinstall. I say go for it...won't hurt anything and may help....mine has .
If you're not getting an oil film coating the inside of the intake manifold from the pcv hose, you don't need it. That's the only thing it was designed for. You won't have a problem selling it here. If you want to get rid of a few pcv hoses and clean the engine bay up a little, use it.
