Default Urgent power steering help needed

I need some help, the main pressure hose for my power steering is leaking and needs replacement. The shop says it should be about $500 bucks in labor to replace. So here are my questions.

Does that sould about right to fix a power steering system?
And is it worth it to repair it or should I just remove it. Right now the car is a daily driver and I know I can live without power steering on other cars but is it a real pain on F-bodys to go without? Any opionions or advise would be greatly appreceated. Thanks.

My original plan was to just remove the power steering, but I cannot find any info here on any who has done (or has tried to do so). And I am just not sure what to do. I trust the shop (worked with them for years) and it may not come to that much but can I just remove it and move on. Any opinions?

That almost sounds like enough to replace the rack. Deff high to replace a line. power steering line 100 bucks at the most labor rate 85 bucks an hour

couldn't take more than two hours to do it 170 plus 100= 270 and thats a high estimate to replace a single line.

Brother... that is truly a 1hr job in your driveway/garage! Don't pay that "Stealership" $1 to do that!!

Go to an auto Zone, or parts stor of your preference. Remove the PS pump, resevoir, and remove the hose from the steering rack.. DO NOT TRY to remove the HP hose from the pump on the car.. Do it like i said... pump/resevoir, hose from steering rack, lift out the top.. then remove the hose from the pump itsef.. It's so easy a "Caveman" could do it!

GL, let us know how it goes.

I have a good line I pulled off my car that I'll make you a bargain on. I swapped my stuff to braided hose and don't plan on using the factory line. Don't remove the power steering. You will hate it that way if you daily drive the car.

Thats your steering rack. Yes you need a new one. I'm actually putting a new one in mine and what a pain in the ***! I think I have to pull the driverside motor mount to get the last bolt out.? ???

yea ,putting a rack in is kind of a pain. You have to take the drivers side motor mount bolt out and raise the motor up enough to get the bolt out. To just replace the line is a piece of cake.
