Intake Manifold Disassembly
I need to get the bulkhead that has the vaccum port for the brake booster line out of the back of a manifold. Anyone know how it comes out? I don't want to break it while using the trial and error method.

Friend of mine called me Saturday asking me the same question. I have never taken it out.
Someone here will know. If I had to guess I would say that it snaps in or maybe twist and lock.

I went to GM and tried to order it yesterday, and it's a seperate part, but it can't be ordered sperately from the manifold. So I'm pretty sure it comes out. I just have no clue how. Or maybe that's why it can't be ordered seperately. Regadless. I'll ****** cut the old LS1 intake i'm taking it off of in half and look at it from the inside if I have to, lol.

I tried removing it from an old LS1 intake and had no success. I even took a long steel rod and ran it through the snout to the back of the manifold and hammered on it. If I had to guess, there is some type of steel snap ring holding it in but I can't figure it out. Let us know if you figure it out and take pics of the carnage.

Mine twisted out. The manifold was broken before I got it, so I had nothing to lose. See the orange O-ring? It makes for a very tight seal. Zoom in on the tree, it has spring-type tabs on it. I don't recall what the hole in the manifold looked like (it's long gone) and you can't tell from the pic.
Prolly the best way to do it would be to find a long piece of thinwall tubing that will just slip over the inner end of the tree (yet still compress those tabs) then push it through the throttle opening.

That isn't gonna work for getting it out of the good manifold though. If I cut the bad one in half, it'll be fine i'm sure. There has to be SOMETHING. Maybe if I hack the old mani apart I can see where the tabs are then use like a super long screwdriver or something to get the broken one out of the good manifold.

It also holds the MAP sensor, so you can't just remove it. You could either cram the vacuum port with epoxy or something or just put a vacuum nipple thing over it with a hose clamp.

i was looking at that piece cuz mine decided to blow up under boost in that area. That piece does not screw it, it has little tabs that spring out once the plug is pushed in. Looking at it from the inside, it does not appear to be removable in any way once its pushed in unfortunately.. I dont have any pics of it from the inside here at work right now, but ill try to remember to snap one tonight when i get home. Here is the carnage my F1 procharger caused to my manifold tho:

Damn! I'm starting to wonder if I can completely destroy the LS1 mani to get this piece out, then very carefully cut the broken one out of my LS6 mani with a dremel or something, then push this one in.

Sounds like that's the only way to get this bitch out. What's wrong with the one in your LS6 to make you have to remove it? I have a used LS1 I'll sell you for cheap with that fitting still intact if you need another donor intake.

I feel the same way usually, but in this case, his options are limited. If it were me, I would break the LS1 intake to get the good part out since he can't buy it seperately and then gently dremel the broken one out of the LS6 and pray that the good one snaps back in with no issues. Oh yeah, don't forget to put the o-ring back on before you snap it on....that would suck.
