When you order the new headers they usually come with new bolts. It's up to you if you want to use them or not.

Funny that it was the same one. It must depend on the header you buy. When I bought my hooker LTs they came with all new bolts, so I just used them.

soak the bolts down liberally with PB blaster for a week before you start the header swap. I had a friend of mine do this to his 98 trans am with 125K miles on it and all the bolts came out easily. Your life will be MUCH EASIER if you invest in a quality air compressor, 3/8" air ratchet, and 1/2" impact. This really saved my hands and back because you don't have to lean over the car as long and it takes the pressure off of your hands. I had his old exhaust off and new headers on in about 6 hours. We took a 30 minute break,so 5.5 hours really.

Weird my 2001 had a broken rear manifold bolt too.
I have the supplied pacesetter bolts on both of my cars.
Strange thing is, one set of bolts came too long. I pulled one out of my other car and it was about 1/8" to 3/16" shorter, I just used some aircraft shim washers I had laying around.

If I was in a situation where I needed bolts I'd go to the local Ace hardware. They have metric stainless steel bolts. It would help if they had a smaller than usual hex head to help fit a wrench on. Or get allen head (those are always a higher grade) That and anti-seize.

do you guys put any mild loctite or anything on your header bolts. I dont want a permanet seal, but something to help keep them from backing out?

Also what length bolts have you been using. The ones that I got with Pacesetter are about 1.125 in... it kinda feels like they are bottoming out in the head... ?

None came with my Kooks headers either time I've ordered them, but I probably wouldn't have used them anyway unless they were including ARP header studs.

As for Loctite, I personally say no. I've had the best luck running the headers a few heat cycles and checking the torque spec. After about the second time doing this, they don't move.

Im leaning towards re-using my stockers... they have bigger flanges than the ones that came with my headers. I think that should improve the clamping...
Probably not really that much different though...

The biggest thing you have to worry about is the threads in the head - that's going to be the weak point (not the bolt flanges).

are the bolts really that flippin weak that if they seized in the head that it wouldnt just pull the threads out on Aluminum heads? or were they rusted or??
Oh BTW My stainless work headers didnt come with any IIRC and no gay stickers either
