Default Exhaust Clamp for CME

I have to get new claps when I put my CME back on this weekend so I just wanted to double check on the size of the pipe. I'm pretty sure its 2 1/2 inches but I'm not sure. For you guys with CME its the clamp that clamps the tips to the 90 deg. pipe.

Its that ugly rusty one to the left of the tips in this pic:

So do I need a clamp that is 2 1/2 inches? Also, any ones that are possibly better that I can pick up from Advanced or Napa or are they all the same pretty much?

I've never seen clamps like the ones on my CME, they are like a bolt bent 360 degrees.
If you're just worried about rust I'd paint it. Those are special clamps made by GM, and I'd bet they're hard to find. Anything at the local parts store is going to look like crap IMO. Unless you go with band clamps. Like these.

Special clamps??? I havent looked at them on mine, but they look like any other U-Clamp that you can find in Advanced, Autozone & etc.

The pipes should be 2.5".

$1000 bucks to anyone who can find one of these sitting on the shelf at autozone.
Like I said it's a bolt bent 360 degrees with one nut.
1st shows a top view, second shows a bottom view.

Yeah I know what they look like, just one was left on when the tips were powdercoated some I'm going to have to cut that one off so I'm going to replace both of them. You suggest I go with a band clamp then? I've got band clamps for my headers, but I could get a couple for the back too I guess.

Sorry if you took that the wrong way man, I didn't notice the quote, I was looking at it real quick before I went to class. Do you think that a band clamp would be best for it then?

I didn't take them off just because they were rusty, I took my tips off to be polished/powdercoated this winter and my friend who worked on them and took them to the powdercoater left on of the clamps on so I don't want one on there thats been powdercoated and other that is all rusty. So I have to cut that one thats on there and replace both of them so they are the same clamp.

Well regardless of what's on it now, you can use pretty much any style clamp. Personally I like fully welded exhaust.

Yeah welded is nice if its never coming off the car, but I'm clamping my stuff on. Thanks for the advice on any style clamp though. I'm thinking band clamps will give it a smooth look.

You guys think these will work just fine? They are looking like my best option from Napa.

Just use some stainless band clamps. It doesnt get any cleaner looking than them.

just get em welded there so the elbow and the tips would just come off together if necessary...it looks better that way IMO
