Default 243 LS6 heads worth it?????

Not sure if discussions on cylinder heads belong in this forum or internal engine. If this is the wrong section mods please move.

I ran across some 243 LS6 heads for around $500. Is it worth it? Would they require some port work to really be worthwhile? I would be putting them on my 1998 SS that currently has the stock heads. I will soon be adding an LS6 intake w/ported TB and if I buy these heads I will go ahead and start saving for a cam and all supporting stuff. I wasnt really planning on taking my car to this stage yet but if this is a good buy on some 243's then I will be upgrading everything in a few months. Thanks.

Thats about average on the price, you should gain 15-25rwhp from them with no port work. I was going to get some for my car but decided to go with the prc stage 2.5 5.3's instead

I have a set that have a stage 2 port job from TEA(a sponsor on this site) and my car with a LS6 intake made really good power.

Dont forget to double check if they came off of a c5z. They have the better valves.

usually worth 15-20hp untouched but if you have them you might as well get them cnc ported and larger valves installed

Mine are going on April 13. They came off a '04 ZO6, but I don't think there are any differences between 243's no matter what they came off. Could be wrong.

243's that came off a ls6 have sodium filled valves, ones off an ls2 don't. I have a set of ls6 243's that will be going on with my trq. v3 unported.

definitely worth it.

So, that must mean the previous owner must have swapped out the heads, I double-checked it and I have 243 heads. Is there much difference between the 241's and 243's?

you're almost right,

243's off the 2001 LS6 have the solid stem valves like the 243's LS2 head.
