Default MAF Bigger lid gains question

Im sure this question has been answered a hundred time but I could'nt find an exact answer so I figured I would ask it again. I have a slp lid on the car now but was just borrowing it from a friend and the time has come to give it back. I was trying to decide if I should just gewt another slp lid or if I should go all out and get one of the new 104mm intakes from fast toys and a larger MAF like the 103.5 from tick performance or some other 100mm MAF. I was just wondering if the extra $300 is worth spending on the bigger stuff. I just don't want to regret not getting it later. What gains would this set-up yeild over a stock MAF and slp lid as my car sits now? My car has a MS4 cam, full boltons and 90/90 setup. I still have stock 99 heads so I know I won't be able to get all the air out as quick as it's coming in but I plan on getting heads very soon. Thanks for the input guys!

If you plan on getting heads, wait until you have them, pick up a FAST 92/92 setup, & install it all together. By changing the IM & TB, you're halfway to taking the heads off.

Either way, with new heads & intake, you'll need something better to suck it in. Stick with an SLP lid & CAI or get a K&N FIPK.

I allready have the FAST 90 and Nick williams 90mm TB so I will just keep that because it would be too expensive to switch over to a FAST 92mm set-up. I have to replace the lid anyways so was'nt sure if I should go all out with the big lid/MAF or save my money for elsewhere and just get a slp or so. I just don't want to put a slp lid on it now and then in a few months, put heads on the car and then be mad at myself for not going to the bigger intake parts now if you know what I mean. The price difference between the two set-ups is roughly $300 or so and I am not rich by anymeans and $300 is a lot of money to me but want to do things the right way on the car and just not "what will get by" but don't want to waiste my money on this stuff if in the end will only yeild 3 HP, lol! Any other input from anyone?

Oops. I missed that you already had the 90/90. Get a FIPK or SLP lid, MAF, & bellow and you'll be fine.

You said the intake and a MAF. Did you mean like a 100mm maf? Will a larger maf fit onto that intake? My buddy has one of those intakes and does'nt like it very much but it's worth a shot. If i got the slp I would'nt replace the maf because the only upgraded one that would fit on the would be like a 85mm and they are basically the same price as a 100mm or 103.5 mm so it would'nt make sense to me to do the slp lid and 85mm maf if I could spend about the same thing and get the much bigger stuff? Am I right or wrong? Any other suggestions guys?

Your air flow is only as strong as your weakest link. For example, you have a 90mm TB. A 100mm MAF will give you more horsepower by giving you more CFM & smoother & faster flow. But just a regular old 90mm high-flow MAF will do the same.

It's not going to hurt to get a 100mm MAF, but you're still limited at the 90mm TB & IM, so IMO, the big MAF is not worth the money. Going with a better-flowing 90mm MAF will do just as much good as a 100mm MAF.

I was under the impression that an SLP lid will not fit an 85mm MAF, since I happen to have both in my garage.

When you buy an 85mm MAF from SLP - such as I did 4 years ago, they include a rubber coupler to mate the two together.

Isn't the SLP lid 78mm?

Just took a look at my lid/MAF... the inside diameter of the neck of my lid and the inside diameter of the MAF housing line up pretty good. The outside diameter of the MAF end vs. the neck of the lid is smallerthan the MAF end.

The SLP lid will fit an 85mm MAF with the coupler it will just fit flush instead of like your stock setup where it fits inside. I am In a similar situation and i am going to go with the FTP 85mm lid and 85mm truck MAF its pretty cheap and will prolly work fine w a 90/90.
