What do you mean "single tail pipe"? Like only one exit out the rear? Or did you look under the car & only see the one pipe goin back over the axle?

I didn't think any V8 cars came with single exit exhaust is why I ask. I haven't seen one anyway. Now I do know there is a aftermarket 4" Mufflex exhaust system & it's a single 4" pipe out I believe.

When I hear or see single pipe I automatically think V6. You 100% sure it's a V8 car & not a V6 someone badged with Z28 emblems to sell easier over there? Just asking.

If I was you & it cost that much to get a exhaust shipped in, I'd have a local shop fab up a custom true dual set. It'll probably be a ton cheaper.

Even if you go the route of true duals, you're still going to need to purchase two new mufflers... And to get it to sound good you're still going to need to purchase quality mufflers along the lines of Borla, Magnaflow, Spintech, etc etc... I think you need to find out how much shipping would cost you for two mufflers, the price of the mufflers themselves, and how much it would cost you to have your friend make the duals. Then, compare that to how much it would cost you to just buy a catback and have it shipped to you. If the price difference isn't too much, go whichever route you like best. If there's a big difference and the more expensive of the two isn't in your budget, go with the more affordable option.

I've got duals on my 2000 SS, and I love the sound. There is a downside though, they hang MUCH lower under the car than the regular style exhaust. Because of that, it has a much higher tendancy to scrape/hit, especially if you lower the car.

Mufflers are mufflers, whether they're Borla, Corsa, Flowmaster, or your local muffler shop special. However, the name brands like Borla, Corsa, Magnaflow, etc. will give you better sound, better performance, better quality... You've gotta work with what you can though, so if all you can afford are some mufflers from the local shop, go for it. If you get the duals fabricated though, try to make the diameter 2.5" or 3" if you can get mufflers with large enough inlets. You don't want it to be too small and restrict flow like that muffler you have on there now is doing.

It's kind of tough to give advice in modding your exhaust when
normal aftermarket parts aren't available.

The simplest exhaust would be to run a 3" I-pipe off of your y-pipe
back over your rear axle. You would have to order a muffler, but
I would think it would be cheaper to ship then the entire cat-back.
You would then have to fabricate the outlet pipe.
You would pretty much be making your own cat-back & just ordering
the muffler for it.

If you decide on true duals you will likely need to order 2 mufflers &
either an X-pipe or an H-pipe to balance the exhaust flow. Creating
true duals will be much more difficult. There is very little clearance.
The exhaust will also be much louder. Just depends on what you want.

The best advice I can give you though is check out www.ls1sounds.com
& youtube to figure out exactly what you want. It won't be cheap so
you need to do it right the first time.

I've changed my exhaust twice & I'm considering doing it a third time.
Let us know what you decide.
