I had that set-up for a few months except I had Bullet mufflers and no cats. It didn't sound bad (was nice and loud) but it was a little too raspy for my taste. Plus, being dumped, the "no cat" smell got annoying after a short time.
I wanted a more traditional muscle car sound. You know: Nice deep rumble.
I wound up getting a custom dual set-up. I went with an H-pipe (for the sound), magna flow high flow cats, and Flowmaster single chambers 10 series (for the sound) and had it go over the axle and out the back.
The sound I got out of that set-up is AWESOME!!! I don't have pics or a sound clip right now (I'm currently in Iraq) but the best way I can describe it is: It's very mild around town. Not loud but the cars next to you at a light can FEEL it. But once you open her up it's like a pissed off demon. (my wife said she has heard me almost a mile away when I went WOT)lol
Like I said, I went H-pipe and flowmaster because I was looking for a certain sound and I was lucky enough to get it on the first try.

Get the TD's, you won't regret it. I've had mine for four years now and the sound STILL makes me smile everytime I start her up!

I just got mine put on about 2 weeks ago. Went from ORY with Magnaflow to TD's with bullets. I won't look back but the only thing I don't like is the drone at about 1500-1600 RPM's. If you are cruising on the highway unfortunately this will be about the RPM's at 65-70. Otherwise they sound great and always become a topic of conversation, oh and I gained some SOTP power with them as well (might be mental).

I LOVE them.. Although they Hang really low and do scrape alot. I ended up cutting the ends at a 45 degree angle to keep thm from scraping as much.

But I still wouldn't have them any other way.

Heres a video.

Just took off my TSP duals with spiral flows. Got tired of the gas smell and all the dust they stirred up. They were way too load, inside the car and out. I replaced them with a custom catted y with flowmaster merge and magnaflow catback. No smell, much quieter and I love the way it sounds now.

This is with MS3 cam, PRC 5.3 heads and pacesetter longtubes.

I ran Stainless Works LT's, x-pipe with LM1's on a '97 SS in '02 and it was just ridiculously loud. I cleaned it up a little bit with random-tech cats and a switch to dynomax bullets but the interior noise was just too much. Been sticking with the conventional Y-pipe setup since then.

pics of your h-pipe setup?

-------------

I have tsp's with straight pipe dumps before the axle and love them but hate the clearance issues.

828LS1Formula I had the TSP 3inch true duals on my 98 bird before I sold it. I put gutted out cats on it to pass emissions I must say I loved the sound but the gas smell and ground clearance sucked. Maybe if you can get a 2.5inch true dual system that may help with clearance but I dont think that half inch gonna help much. I put it this way between the gas smell and the clearance I kinda stop driving it on the weekend like I did because it be came a issue of getting in and out somewhere espeically with the scraping.

One word of advice to all I've got a setup on my 98 camaroSS Kook's Longtubes, kooks catted Y-pipe and GMMG Exhaust is a good tone and loud setup. The tone alone is great now you put that with a cam and my setup now sounds very bad ***. You Tube Bobby labonte black bird (white with green strips) or a GMMG Berger Phase IIX which is the 475hp car and she how bad *** they are.

Again, no argument here the sound is wicked with true duals and a cam..If you don't like the smell of fumes and loss of clearence I would stay away. To each his own. My two cents is that for a daily or semi daily driver I would not put them back on. Removing them did not take away hardly any HP/TQ on mine <5 and it made driving it more enjoyable. Put together a system from some of the sponsors here and get a cut-out(s), best of both worlds. Again Good, just one opinion. Good Luck

I love the way they sound versus a y pipe setup.

I refuse to believe there is no muffler for you f-body guys that flows well and isn't so damn loud. Everyone seems to run 3" exhaust with bullets or single chambers so that's why it's obnoxious loud...has to be something else that will fit.

I don't care for the LM sound at all anyway. I can tell you my friend's loudmouth is over twice as loud as my car.

You ever heard of Magnaflow, Hooker, Corsa? All flow very well and aren't obnoxiously loud.

I have cats on mine:

3" high flow magnaflows
3" summit X
2.5" powersticks
over the axle out back

scrapes a little once in a while
Sound is perfect (stock car though w/ LTs)
Cam, and dumped would be too loud for me.
Out the back, and I bet it would be great with the cam.

I'm just saying everyone on this forum talks about how true duels are ungodly loud.

It depends on the muffler...doesn't have to be loud if you get quieter mufflers.

what you are saying is true but bullets and single chamber flowmasters are fairly small. Dont forget room underneath an F-body is at a premuim especially when you are talking about putting 2 full-sized mufflers with 2 full sized pipes to connect them..
