Exactly, maybe if you were trying to be stealth and you just got the brand new LS1 fbody back in the fall of 1997 would I bother to do this.

I definitely believe there to be a power difference. Especially at higher speeds with the ram air (60 mph +) Also I noticed better throttle reponse, better looks, and better sound I'd say roughly 8rwhp can be achieved with just a good fitted aftermarket lid. Mate that to the LS6 intake and maybe a new air filter (k&n if money permits) with a nice catback and your car will breathe a WHOLE lot better. Imo.

Yeah I know some of the slp lids had the hole and some did not. I think you have to get the revised one for 01-02 cars maybe? Not sure about that though.

your best bet might be just ask around until you find a performance friendly shop that will pass your car........maybe for a little extra $$$$$.

I've seen threads about guys in CA that know about shops that will pass them, try going to a speed shop that builds fast cars they might know of a way around the smog test.

*disclaimer* - I in no way encourage fraudulent or illegal ways of passing CA emissions test.

Now back to the regularly scheduled program!!

The hose hooks to back of air baffles which you cut off. Dont think this would make you fail emissions tests.

That's the major thing right there. The other thing you might want to look at is blocking off the unecessary two plastic pieces that are off to both sides of the lid itself. Maybe block them off? Or fill them with some type of spray foam and run your sensor directly into the lid portion maybe? Someone chime in if they have experience with this. I just remember some of the answers I got when I asked about doing this myself. Also the ftra is a great way to help it breathe better (Fast Toys Ram Air) or free ram air mod. Look those up and see if they apply to you. There are a TON of free mods on here and if you find them in the right stickie you will be surprised. Hope this helps out a little.

did you find the hole in the baffle? I really dont think that not having that hose connected will make you fail emissions though.

It is ok for that thing to suck air really. The worst it could do is suck a little dirt into the AIR pump. Most people, myself included, pull that annoying bastard out if we don't have to pass smog. All it does is pump air into the exhuast manifolds for about a min, after you start the car. If you have no where to hook it and are worried about damaging it get a little filter or make on for it. The only reason it hooks to the factory lid is so it pulls filtered air.

It was probably modded at one time and some put the wrong parts on it when they de-modded it.
